3. NARROWING RESEARCH TOPIC PRACTICE
1. Print these or similar sentence strips that move the topic from general to specific. Ask students in small groups to order these from most general to most specific. You may want to point out that the most specific item on this list could be too specific, depending on the level of the researcher, as it could be difficult to find information on the topic that is on the level of the researcher. Likewise, the most general topic will yield far too much information.
2. Now print these flashcards that list very general topics. Have small groups use a paper or handout to take these general topics and make them more specific.
4. BUILDING AWARENESS OF WEBSITE AND HYPERLINKS -ACTIVITY
We take it for granted that students are able to navigate websites, but many students are overwhelmed by hyperlinks and websites. This activity was designed by a teacher and a librarian to help build this capacity. Their journal article is cited within. I have adapted it in the file below.
