Excited for Black History Month(s)!!! 2019
I am planning to focus on the life and photographs of the brilliant composer, photographer, filmmaker, poet, and humanitarian Gordon Parks. Just a fascinating and brilliant person!  Below are two movies I highly recommend.  The first, The Learning Tree (MPAA PG), is based on is own novel that is basically autobiographical.  For those who look for a companion or alternative to To Kill A Mockingbird, The Learning Tree is a story of moral courage with an young African-American hero.  The second movie is a documentary about his incredible life. Enjoy!

Harvest of Empire

Looking for a documentary to watch about United States history and its relationship with Latin America?  Here's a great piece.  There's also a book (with a lot more detail), which I hope to have soon in the library.  This is a great overview of our history; one I think everyone should have.
